What is Plumbing?
Plumbing is the system of pipes, fixtures, fittings, and other apparatuses installed in buildings for the distribution of potable water for drinking, heating, washing, cooking, and sanitation, and the removal of waterborne wastes. It also encompasses systems that manage stormwater runoff, sewage, and venting of plumbing systems to prevent the build-up of sewer gases within buildings.
Pipes are the main conduits through which water flows within a plumbing system. They can be made from various materials such as copper, PVC (polyvinyl chloride), PEX (cross-linked polyethylene), galvanized steel, or cast iron.
Fixtures are devices connected to the plumbing system that provide water for various purposes such as sinks, toilets, showers, bathtubs, and faucets.
Fittings are connectors that join pipes together or connect pipes to fixtures. Common fittings include couplings, elbows, tees, valves, and adapters.
This part of the plumbing system brings potable water into the building from a municipal water supply or a private well. It includes pipes, valves, meters, and other components to regulate and distribute water throughout the building.
